Forget-Me-Not Book Review: John Williams’ “Stoner”

★★★Book-Review-Stoner-by-John-Williams★☆ A poignant, beautifully written—albeit heartbreakingly bleak—novel whose melody in a minor key evokes the cry of Ecclesiastes: “Vanity of vanities…All is vanity.” This novel is so worth a long, quiet read, for no other reason than to remind us that, as C.S. Lewis noted, “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”
